14TH STREET PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
Columbus, Georgia
When the Georgia Department of Transportation condemns a vehicular bridge, programming the remaining piece of existing infrastructure can be a challenge. In the case of the 14th Street Bridge, Columbus Consolidated Government petitioned the State to turn the bridge over to the City and convert it into a pedestrian connector between Columbus, Georgia, and Phenix City, Alabama. The connection allowed for the linkage of two central business districts along with two river walk trail systems.
In concert with Hecht Burdeshaw Architects, French & Associates provided site civil design, hardscape and amenities, and landscape architectural design.
