COLUMBUS CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVERWALK

Columbus, Georgia

Meandering along the east bank of the Chattahoochee River is a trail system that traverses through woodlands, residential communities, commercial areas and downtown districts, linking Columbus from North to South. This 15 mile alternative transportation system also serves as access for the Columbus Whitewater Course. The walk takes on a variety of surfaces as it moves through various environments. In the more wooded environments, the walk is asphalt, while in the more urban portions, it takes on a textured pattern of brick pavers and concrete.

In 2020, the final piece was put into place to secure complete separation of pedestrian and vehicular traffic - the Bibb Mill and City Mills connections. Rising over ninety feet from the waters' edge through to the mill tower, the Bibb Mill Tower Bridge is the crown jewel of the project.

French & Associates, teamed with Hecht Burdeshaw, Architects, providing master planning, site civil and landscape architectural design.

In 2020, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials recognized the Columbus Chattahoochee Riverwalk with the National People’s Choice Award.
